transID

transID was founded by two trannies in 1992 within the GEREDE e.V. „Dresdner Lesben, Schwule, Transen und alle anderen“ („Lesbians, Gays and Trannies of Dresden“). Over the now 13 years of existence of this group, we can look back on a lot of great experiences and wonderful events.

Even though we have had many changes over the years, we continuously hold true to our values and intentions. We want to be an open group for all who have their own personal view of gender, gender identity and sexuality and want to live by it. However, our work is meant to go beyond that of a “mere” support group. transID does not just want to be seen as a meeting point for people who identify themselves as transsexuals (TS). Our group meetings are also frequented by transvestites (TV), cross dresser (CD), guests and other people who cross gender lines and ignore normal role models assigned to them like butch lesbians and drag queens (DQ). We also welcome partners, parents, brothers and sisters as well as kids of the above mentioned.

Our group meetings are held every 2nd Saturday and every 4th Friday of each month at 8 pm in the rooms of the GEREDE e.V. They tend to all kinds of different interests. We see the source of an interesting and close-to-life group work in the variety of the individual views of life of our guests. We would like to give suggestions and support so everyone can find their own way in developing oneself. This can be ordinary things of life. Not just questions of our main theme are discussed by us - we also have relaxed chats about “god and the world” or have just plain old fun together.

Beside this we also discuss current politics and try to provide, together with all who are seriously interested, a platform for equal interactions and discussions. Even very personal problems, which arise from the individual situation of each one, can be discussed in the harmonic and intimate atmosphere. A special time for such themes provides the talk hour moderated by a social worker of the GEREDE e.V. that regularly starts an hour before the Friday meetings at 7 pm in the rooms of the GEREDE e.V. (see previous paragraph)

transID has no statute. Even though an active base of people does a lot of organizing things in the back ground, there is no board or other leading group or person. There is no dress code and no need to fulfil any stereotypes or role models. The only thing we expect of the guests of your meetings is to interact open and fair with each other, to respect the personalities of the others and to participate depending on each ones abilities. No matter if thematic discussion, discourse, dancing course, video evening or book reading, styling counselling, photo session, BBQ evening or X-mas party - the spectra of our events is broad. There is the opportunity for each and everyone to actively participate.

We limit our activities intentionally not only to the rooms provided by the GEREDE e.V., but go out as well. Those rooms are shielded from the curious looks of other people which is of great value to most of our guests at the beginning of their journey to themselves, but later we like give them a chance to do the next tiny step together with friends. May it be to just go drink a glass of tea or a beer in a nice pub after the group meetings, going to the movies or visiting a variety theatre.
